Annie has a special gift that has tormented her all her life making her an outcast where ever she goes. When her ailing grandmother is in need of her help she comes down to the bayou for the summer not knowing how not only important her gift is but how it will be the key to her happiness.
Tombi is a hunter and puts the hunt and his responsibilities to his people and the fight against evil above all. Unsure as to how his group of hunters will be able to defeat the evil that plagues the bayou he meets Annie whose gift might be exactly the advantage needed to win this battle once and for all,
I really enjoyed this book that had the perfect amounts of paranormal and romance without it being shoved down your throats which is very hard to achieve and my hat goes off to the author!.I love that Annie is at first portrayed as weak young and naive but we watch her grow into this strong and fearless woman who does some of the rescuing and is not always the one being rescued. I also love how tough and reserved Tombi is at first maybe a bit too much at first but then becomes this tender loving and fiercely loyal (to Annie) hero who isn’t afraid to ask for help.
To me Annie and Tombi are each others ying and yang and balance each other out and I can only wish to find a love as strong as theirs- The kind that sneaks up on you and never lets go. I really love reading this by the pool and watching all the characters grow and the mystery of who the traitor was delicious!
I give this wonderful book 5 out of 5 Cupcakes!
Malibu Soaked Coconut Cream Cake
Ok so I wanted to do a semi home made take on this recipe to make it easier and more obtainable for everyone! This is inspired by the very first meal that Tombi and Annie have together. After reading that scene all I wanted was some coconut cake. Ok one thing I should tell you is I soaked my cakes over night-so this is a plan ahead dessert.
1 Box of Yellow Cake Mix
1 Tbl spoon Coconut oil
1/2 Tbl spoon of Almond Extract
1 Cup Coconut milk
Half a cup of Malibu Coconut Rum
1 10 ounce package of whipped Cream Cheese
3 cups shredded coconut flakes (divided into 2)
1/2 stick of butter softened
3 cups confectioners’ sugar sifted
1 tablespoon malibu
Bake cake as directed being sure to replace water with coconut milk and vegetable oil with coconut oil. (I used 2- 8 inch spring pans )
Once cakes are done I then spooned (while they are still in pans) malibu over the cakes making sure to get every inch – don’t worry about the liquid that seeps to the side that iss actually great to get the driest parts soaked. I then refrigerated the cakes over night..
You WILL need a mixer for this frosting to be smooth and fluffy- a hand mixer is fine. Mix cream cheese, butter and rum until smooth. Slowly sift in powdered sugar making sure to blend out any lumps. Once sugar is fully Incorporated mix in half of coconut flakes. Frosting may seem a bit runny and it is fine to chill it for a bit. The rest of the coconut is going to be toasted in a non stick pan to use for the sides and to add texture.
Frost your cake and rim with coconut and enjoy with a nice cup of (malibu spiked) coffee or tea!
