synopsis

Jinx Hamilton has been minding her own business working as a waitress at Tom’s Cafe and keeping up with her four cats. Then she inherits her Aunt Fiona’s store in neighboring Briar Hollow, North Carolina and learns that her aunt has willed her some special “powers” as well. They say admitting you have a problem is the first step and Jinx has a major problem. She’s a brand new witch with no earthly clue what that means. Throw in a few homeless ghosts, a potential serial killer, and a resident rat and Jinx is almost at her wit’s end. Thankfully she has the unfailing support of her life-long BFF, Tori and it doesn’t hurt that there’s a hot guy living right next door.

Be careful for what you wish for… for you just might get it!

Jinx Hamilton isn’t your typical young woman- at the rip ol’ age of 29 she is a cat lady to 4 chubby feline studs. She has just inherited her crazy Aunt Fiona’s store after she past away- packing her life and her kitties she moves to Briar Hollow to start over- little does she know she has inherited MUCH more than her aunt’s store and apartment above it.

Waking up one morning with new found powers can be a bit unnerving. Throw in your deceased aunt sitting at your kitchen table and things get crazy! Little did Jinx know by wishing to have her aunt’s rumored powers before falling asleep the night before that fate would actually grant her wish! Now she must figure out how to deal with her new temperamental store but also the fact that she can now see and talk to dead people! Oh vey the litter has hit the fan!

I really enjoyed this cute cozy mystery. I found myself really bonding and investing in the characters and the story. I thought that the author found the perfect mix of paranormal and humor with out mucking the mix up.

The plot line was clearly well thought out and I usually figure out whodunnit rather quickly but just when I thought I had everything figured out the author would throw in a perfectly timed twist making me doubt my choice! There are some dark aspects to the story which typically when reading your run of the mill cozy’s isn’t found but I found it refreshing and realistic to the story line and the genre itself.

I also loved the dynamic between Jinx (Norma Jean- btw I am a huge Marilyn Monroe fan and loved that this was her real name) and her life long best friend Tori! I found wanting to be their third wheel! Throw in some spoiled furbabies and this reader was a very happy camper!
