Rebellion has always been in the
O’Reilly family’s blood. So when faced with the tragic death of her brother
during Northern Ireland’s infamous Troubles, a teenage Nora joined the IRA to
fight for her country’s freedom. Now, more than a decade later, Nora is haunted
by both her past and vivid dreams of a man she has never met.
When she is given a relic belonging
to Brigid of Kildare, patron saint of Ireland, the mystical artifact transports
her back eighty years—to the height of Ireland’s brutal civil war. There she
meets the alluring stranger from her dreams, who has his own secrets—and
agenda. Taken out of her own time, Nora has the chance to alter the fortunes of
Ireland and maybe even save the ones she loves. In this captivating and
adventurous novel from Jodi McIsaac, history belongs to those with the courage
to change it.

Which character of your creation is your favorite?

Definitely Nora from Bury the Living. Nora’s had a rough life, but that doesn’t stop her from trying to help others and right some pretty big wrongs. I love her sense of adventure and willingness to embrace the impossible.

When did you realize you wanted to be an author?

When I was about five! It’s really the only thing I’ve ever wanted to do. I’m so amazed that my childhood dream has actually come true.

What are your must have snacks when writing and or reading?

Sometimes if I really need to push myself, I’ll get a box of Smarties and give myself one for every 200 words I write or something like that. When I’m reading, I love to curl up with a big bowl of homemade rice pudding.

What are some things you do to get in to the mood of writing?

Sit my butt down in the chair and force my fingers to start moving. I honestly don’t have time to wait until I’m in the mood. Even if what I write is awful, it can be edited later. You can’t edit a blank page.

If you could co author a novel with any author who would you choose?

Oh, wow, so many options! I’d have to say J.K. Rowling. That would be ridiculous and amazing.

Do you have a dream cast for Bury the Living?

I have a picture of Jessica Chastain taped to my wall—she’s my Nora. In my mind I picture Maggie Gyllenhaal as Pidge. But in reality, I’d love to see Irish actors cast in all the roles—amazing actors like Cillian Murphy and Saoirse Ronan and Dohmnall Gleeson. And Liam Cunningham as absolutely anyone. I’d write a new character just for him.

What is the craziest thing a fan has said to you?

I can’t tell you in case they read this! I’ve had some amazing comments from readers—it’s incredible and humbling how much a book can affect someone’s life.
