Witch way to Tree’s Hollow?

When Lenora “Lenny” Brewer finds herself fed up with her life in the city, she flees to her Aunt’s bed and breakfast in the small town of Tree’s Hollow. When a local handyman turns up dead, Lenny gets herself mixed up in a murder mystery.

Add in a hunky forest ranger, her dream job as an investigative journalist for the local paper, and a cat with so much sass it’s practically criminal, and you’ve got a recipe for a magically good time. Oh and one more thing, Lenny didn’t even know she was a witch until she arrived at her new home in Tree’s Hollow.

Will she learn to harness the craft brewing inside of her, or will trouble boil over and destroy everything she comes to love?

Lenora Brewster is just going through the motions in life till she can afford to buy the apartment of her dreams and the she can find a job she actually loves. Actually reporting the news- real news the type of news that does not involve hollywood stars and scandal. She thought she had her life planned out and headed in the right direction. Including a possible engagement in the horizons.

When she meets her boyfriend Devon for dinner at one of the fanciest restaurants in the city a girl can only assume it is “the night”. You know the one that involves a big questin and a girls best friend a diamond ring. Well Lenny was wrong – very wrong. Turns out Devon has emptied her bank account of her life savings and has decided running away is the best way to fix things.

The night only gets better when Lenny runs into hollywood starlet Starla Lex and her playboy Boyfriend Boyd Cotts causing a huge scene out side of the police station- now normally thing would be any tabloid writers dream come true however Lenny loves and respects the hollywood star and chooses not to tell her boss what she has seen and hopes she doesn’t find out….

The next morning arrives and the scene is the talk of the town and her office as Lenny was spotted in a video that has leaked on line-Now jobless and boyfriendless Lenny is done with her big city life and figures its time to visit Tree’s Hollow and her favorite Aunt Kara. That’s when she finds out life is not done throwing curveballs her way!

Now that Lenny is back in Tree’s Hollow her Aunt has her all set with a job at the local paper and a room in her bed and breakfast you would think that she can finally relax and enjoy life- that is until one she finds out she is a witch and two a dead body is found at the bed and breakfast!

Magic, Murder and Mystery oh my!

The Sweet-

I found this read though short filled with hijinks, magic and plenty of twist and turns! My favorite character would be Jezebel- Lenny’s cat, who by the way decides to start talking just as soon as Lenny lands in Tree’s Hollow! She is the purrfect ingredient to the story and adds quite a bit of humor and sass and if you ask me a cozy is nothing with out some humor and of course sass!

The author spins a wonderful storyline that keeps the reader guessing on on their toes.

The Sour-

Though I found Lenny a great lead character who is very likable and seems like she is one tough cookie sticking her for herself plenty in only the first chapter- I thought it was a bit unbelievable how quickly and with out any doubts she accepts her new found witchyness and magical talking cat with out a blink of an eye. I mean come on your cat just asked you for cream for the very first time for god sake! I think that there was some magic lost in the story for me simply because of that- I found it so unbelievable.

This read is the perfect rainy day read that will be sure to brighten up your day and I strongly recommend it for any cozy mystery lovers and give it 4 out of 5 cupcakes!

Genre- Cozy Mystery

synopsis

TONIGHT SHE’S GOING TO FIND HER MAGIC OR DIE TRYING—HOPEFULLY IN THAT ORDER. AND WITHOUT DYING.

Cassandra Holly is just your average witch living in Nevermore. Except for the witch part. To be a witch, to stay in Nevermore—and in enchanting distance of her family—she needs to find her magic.

Now.

Against all odds, she does.

Sort of.

FINDING HER MAGIC IS WHEN EVERYTHING GOES WRONG.

Coming into her magic is a dream come true. Stumbling onto a crime scene where the most powerful—and crankiest—witch in Nevermore’s history has been murdered? Not so much. Being hired by the witch’s ghost to find the killer? Verging into nightmare territory.

Ordinarily Cassie would have left the crime solving to the experts. But it turns out the ghost is not only well-versed in cranky, but coercion as well, and she isn’t going to take no for an answer.

GHOSTLY DESPOT ASIDE, WHAT IF THE MURDER WAS SIMPLY A RED-HERRING?

The more Cassie learns about the murder, the more she realizes something more nefarious is afoot. And if she doesn’t figure out the true mystery in time, she’ll lose her magic, her family, her home.

And quite possibly herself.

Cassandra Holly is a witch or at least she hopes she is… In the town of Nevermore everyone i magical and those who aren’t are shunned and made to leave. Cassandra hasn’t come into her magic yet- to say she is a late bloomer is an understatement. In order to stay in Nevermore where everything and everyone she loves is she has to find her magic, and she will do anything to make it happen.

After finding a dislocation spell that will allow her to skim from the magic that flowsin the air of Nevermore she hopes it will help her magic along. She and her best friend Willow catnap the one of the most powerful witches in town, who also happens to be a cat in order to cast the spell. However everything goes wrong when Maude the cranky witchy cat is found dead and with her death the town’s protection spell is in danger and so is the magic. Can Cassie figure out how to fix the town and it’s disappearing magic before it is too late?

The Sweet-

The story begins with a bang.. literally and from that moment I am hooked and eager to read the rest of the book. I am a sucker for witchy cozy mysteries (in case you haven’t noticed) however though this is indeed a cozy it gave me a bit of a New Adult feel and I really enjoyed that aspect of the book as I have yet to come across a cozy mystery with the kind of vibe and found it a welcome addition to the wonderful plot.

Cassie and Willow are young girls who remind me of me and my friends when we were younger- you know just 2 girls who always seem to find trouble cause girls well they wanna have fun. Oh boy, did they have fun and so did! Their cranky antics and magnetism for all things wacky really made this book enjoyable for me.

The Sour-

At time I felt lost as the author would take the story into a not only unexpexted turn but a confusing one at that. There were times I had to re-read a page to really understand what was happening in the scene and wish the author took her time with those scenes.

I have gone ahead and purchased the next book in this series and am so looking forward to seeing what trouble Cassie and Willow get into next!

Rating 4 out of 5 cupcakes!

When not working on her latest book, she sits in traffic on her way to or from work, thinking of stories, or hanging out with her husband of over 20 years. And she’s always spoiling her fur baby rotten.

interview

EBL- Do you remember what made you want to become an author? How old were you?
EB- I don’t remember how old I was. I was avid reader as soon as I could read. I think it was a natural progression to want to write as well.
EBL- Who are some authors that you look up to or admirer?
EB- Anne Rice, most definitely. I read her Interview with The Vampire and was blown away. She was one of the first authors that actually took me into the world she was writing about. I felt like I was in the book with the characters.
EBL- Who would be your dream co author?
EB- Anne Rice! lol!!!! Wouldn’t that be a dream come true!
EB:L- Out of all the characters you have created- Which is you absolute favorite?
EB- Oh boy. Um. I adore my Julian Montfort from the Master For Tonight Duet. He’s so “dommy”. He’s got that whole tall, dark and alpha thing going on. Zane, from my Flames of Vampire Passion Series, is a party. He’s got a filthy mouth, loves to get down and dirty, and loves his woman with his whole heart. The Flames of Vampire Passion Series has so much humor in it. I gotta say, at least right now, Zane is my fave.
EBL- As you know Crystal likes to create recipes based on books- If there was one recipe you would say would go hand in hand with your book what would it be?
EB- Maybe mulled wine since it’s chilly now.
EBL- What do you look for when designing or purchasing book covers?
EB- Something eye catching, unusual, isn’t using the same model that’s everywhere.
EBL- Do you listen to music or create a play list when writing or do you need complete silence to be with your muse?
EB- I’ve always got some kind of background noise, either music or tv, going on while I’m writing. My pc is in our living room, so I had to learn how to tune noise out.
EBL- How often do you find time to read? How long would you say your TBR is?
EB- The only time I have to read is between writing novels, or when one of favorite authors releases a book. For example, Karen Moning is releasing the last book in her Fever Series. I am dropping everything and reading that book when it lands on my kindle.
EBL- What advice would you have for your younger self who just started writing?
EB- Feel the fear and do it anyway.
EBL- As an author do you have any regrets?
EB- No, not really.
EBL- If you could sit down and have a conversation with anyone alive or dead who would you choose?
EB- I’d rather sit down and chat with my characters. Be able to really interact with them.
EBL- How often would you say your real life inspires your writing?
EB- Quite of bit of my real life is in the Flames of Vampire Passion Series. Zane’s mother-in-law, Louise, is based on my mother. His wife, London, is an author. But that’s about where it ends.
EBL- Would you ever want any of your works to become a television show or movie?
EB- If so who is on your dream cast?
EBL- How do you react or deal with negative reviews of your work?
EB- I know that I’m not everyone’s cup of tea, so you just have to move on.
EBL- Do you have any upcoming signings you will be attending?
EB- No, not yet.
EBL- What are you currently working on?
EB- I am getting ready to publish Zane, The Inferno, Flames of Vampire Passion, Book Three! So excited!
EBL- How do you prepare to write? Do you have a ritual before you are ready to write?
EB- I don’t have any rituals. I just sit down and write. How does a book get written? One word at a time.
EBL- Do you believe in magic and or a paranormal world like in your books?
EB- I’m pretty open minded. I believe that there’s more unexplained in the world, than explained. Vampires being real wouldn’t surprise me one bit.
EBL- As an author do you prefer to read via Ebook or Paperback?
EB- EBook is easier, but I still buy my favorite books in paperbacks!
EBL- If you could have anyone and we mean anyone featured on a cover of your book who would it be?
EB- Enrico Ravennah. I would redo my Master For Tonight covers. He’s the closest person I’ve ever seen to my Julian. I wrote Master For Tonight long before I ever discovered Enrico. I could not believe my eyes when I saw him.
EBL- Who would you say most supports and inspires you?
EB- My husband is my number one supporter and fan. I never would have written anything if not for him.
EBL- As an author how do you feel about he pressure the can be put on you to release new books?
EB- There’s a lot of pressure, but I can’t give in to it. My responsibility to write to the best of ability, and put out a quality product. All my books are professionally edited, and formatted as well. All these things take time.
EBL- How did you become part of the indie community?
EB- First as a reader, and then as an author.
EBL- How do you deal with fear or jitters before a new release?
EB- Drive my husband crazy with my nervousness. lol…
We had so much fun with these questions! Thanks so much for answering them! If you have any other questions for the author let us know in the comments!

Ghostly Interest by Lily Harper Hart Review

Title- Ghostly Interest

Author- Lily Harper Hart

Genre- Paranormal Cozy

Purchase Link- Amazon KU

synopsis

Harper Harlow lives in a world of ghosts.
She sees them. She talks to them. She investigates them. She sends them on their merry way.
She’s not embarrassed by her abilities, and she’s not afraid to be who she is. She’s also not looking for a relationship.
Enter Jared Monroe, a smooth-talking police detective who sees things in black and white and ignores any shades of gray. He doesn’t believe in ghosts, and while he’s intrigued by the feisty blonde ghost detective, he’s not interested in the paranormal.
When twenty-one-year-old Annie Dresden’s body washes up on the beach of Whisper Cove, Harper and Jared collide. Sparks may be flying, but so is confusion and mistrust.
Harper calls on her loyal band of ghost hunters to solve the crime, and Jared relies on his training to tackle the same problem. It doesn’t matter what approach they take because all paths are destined to intersect.
Can Harper and Jared learn to work together? And, more importantly, can new ghosts let go of the past and give in to an obscure future? It’s anyone’s guess when big personalities go to war and find they might have more in common than they think.

Harper Hart has a very special talent and she has had it all her life, much to the dismay of her parents and the town of Whisper Cove. She can not only see the dead she can speak to them and also help them cross over. Yes it is a quiet unbelievable talent and some may say she is missing a few marbles but time and time again she has proven herself and the town and all her loved ones have no reason not to believe.

That is until someone has been murdered and the new Detective Jared Monroe has no reason to believe her. He thinks she is simply gearing for attention and is in the way of his investigation, but strange things keep happening and they all involve Harper Hart.

The Sweet-

Page one of this story is already filled with ghost hunting action and I enjoyed the fact that it began with a bit of a bang! I found this book bringing me fond memories of my Ghost Whisperer binge watching nights and I was made at it! Harper is confidant and proud of her talents and sees no reason to hid them which made her all the more real and girl crush worthy. She lives with her gay best friend Zander who brings the laughs to the story and I loved the special bond the two had between them.

The mystery itself had some good twist and turns and had me eager to find out who murdered the poor college student. I also found all the main characters to be realistic and quite likable.

The Sour-

At times the story seemed to slow down a little to much for my pace of reading and I found it hindering to the book itself. I also found the relationship between Jared and Harper to be a little annoying with the back and forth of it all and I just wanted it to be kind of down with so we could get back to the plot.

With that being said I still found the book quite enjoyable and look forward to reading more of the story. I rate this story 3.5 out of 5 cupcakes!

I’m a romantic at heart. A true romantic. I love the idea of a happy ending, so much so I have trouble writing a sad one. The world is sad enough. I like escaping in fiction. That’s just me. I like sarcasm and snark – but I’m not sure a sad ending is in me. If you’re looking for an edge like that, you’re probably looking in the wrong place. Just FYI.

I love magic and love. I hope you do, too.

interview

EBL- Do you remember what made you want to become an author? How old were you?

LB- I’ve always loved writing essays at school. In my final year, I wrote this essay in the first person studying for an exam who was bothered by a mosquito, which resulted in a war between the two. Funny little tidbits like how I would whack him, only to watch him do a few pushups and here he comes again! Lol, it ended up in a bundle of amazing essays at the time. That’s when I knew it’s what I wanted to do.

EBL- Who are some authors that you look up to or admirer?

LB- Johanna Lindsey, John Grisham, James Patterson.

EBL- Who would be your dream co-author?

LB- I already have one. I’m writing with him under the pseudonym Isabel James. He’s the most fantastic mentor any writer can wish for.

EBL- Out of all the characters you have created- Which is your absolute favorite?

LB- That would be impossible to say, but there is one that stands out and that is because he was the one where it all began. He’s also most of my fans favorite, it seems. Ruark Greer, the owner of Club Alpha Cove, which became a bestselling series.

EBL- What do you look for when designing or purchasing book covers?

LB- I design my own book covers. A cover must speak to me and to the story. I like to be able to associate what’s on the cover with what is in the story. All my books start off with the cover – it’s always a featuring scene in my books.

EBL- Do you listen to music or create a play list when writing or do you need complete silence to be with your muse?

LB- I go into a “zone” when I write. I can even sit and create with people chatting around me. Lately I’ve taken to smooth jazz in the background.

EBL- How often do you find time to read? How long would you say your TBR is?

LB- My TBR is pages long. Same with the unread books on my kindle. Sigh…I haven’t had time to read in over a year. It’s very sad, but it’s true. I work until after midnight every day and when I get into bed … sleep beckons!

EBL- What advice would you have for your younger self who just started writing?

LB- Start earlier!  I published my first two books in the early nineties in my home language, Afrikaans and after that nothing, until 2 years ago. Apart from that, read up on writing skills, do some courses. I’ve come a very long way since I started and since English is not my first language, all of it has not been easy. Never believe you’re above learning.

EBL- As an author, do you have any regrets?

LB- Only that I didn’t start earlier.

EBL- If you could sit down and have a conversation with anyone alive or dead who would you choose?

LB- The poet Pablo Neruda. An absolute phenomenal poet. He started writing poems at the age of 10. How amazing is that? I love the variety of styles he wrote in and of course his love poems … aah, drool!

EBL- How often would you say your real life inspires your writing?

LB- I write from the inside out. Emotions and sensations to me when I write are real. Most of my books are entrenched with conflict, insecurities and the emotions that makes humans click. As far as stories go? Not too much. Most of it comes from my imagination.

EBL- Would you ever want any of your works to become a television show or movie? If so who is on your dream cast?

LB- Oh, my, what a question. Who wouldn’t, right? And if you asked me the casting question ten years ago, it would have been easy to answer. There were some seriously hot actors at the time. At this stage . . . hmm, probably someone like Channing Tatum, Chris Hemsworth, Matt Damon, Jessica Alba, Jennifer Lawrence, Charilize Theron.

EBL- How do you react or deal with negative reviews of your work?

LB- In the beginning, it really bothered me but since then I’ve learned to look at it differently. Every person has an opinion of their own. The ones that add value to me as a writer or will improve the story – in other words, constructive criticism, those I will act on. The rest, flows off my back like water off a duck.

EBL- What are you currently working on?

LB- I am working on 3 projects. Just finished the 4th book in the Club Wicked Cove Series, Merciful: Seth’s Revenge. I am on chapter 10 of a contemporary romance in the Tycoon series, The Tycoon’s Mechanic and I just started on a new genre I will be entering. Not divulging too much on that as yet.

EBL- How do you prepare to write? Do you have a ritual before you are ready to write?

LB- No ritual. I just sit down and voila . . . off I go!

EBL- Do you believe in magic and or a paranormal world like in your books?

LB- I’ve written two which will be series as well, the first one a Dragon Shifter and the other Angels and Demons. I don’t particularly believe a paranormal world exist, but I do believe there is magic in the world. It’s all around us, and it’s how you as an individual tap into the wonder of the world that makes it magical. Those are the things I like to portray in those books.

EBL- As an author, do you prefer to read via ebook or paperback?

LB- I love to feel the book in my hands and have a library of over a thousand books, however there are many books only available in ebook format . . . so, alas . . .

EBL- If you could have anyone and we mean anyone featured on a cover of your book who would it be?

LB- Channing Tatum. He’s just gorgeous.

EBL- Who would you say most supports and inspires you?

LB-  The fans who keep telling me that Club Alpha Cove is the best series they’ve ever read and continue to read it over and over again.

EBL- As an author, how do you feel about the pressure the can be put on you to release new books?

LB- I am an Indie Author, so I set my own deadlines –  which I strive to keep – but every time I press that publish button, I am still anxious whether the readers are going to like the story. Coping with it is easy, I just sit down and loose myself in the imaginary worlds I create.

EBL- What is the craziest thing a fan has ever done?

LB- No, my fans behave very well. No crazies yet.

EBL- How did you become part of the indie community?

LB- When I started writing again, it was a decision I made to get published quickly. I’ve not regretted it and at this stage, I have no desire to change.

EBL- How do you deal with fear or jitters before a new release?

LB- As I said above, I write it out of me!

Check out the authors latest work!

synopsis

Fear may linger but regrets remain.

Nolan Shaffer knows all too well. The billionaire co-owner of Club Wicked Cove seems to have it all—power, prestige, looks, friends . . . and women – anyone he wants, except for one. And the gap between fantasy and reality grows wider by the minute. Plagued by a guilt-ridden past, he struggles to let go and embrace his future in the form of Jewel Flint, a drop-dead gorgeous woman whose heart remains a hand’s-breadth out of his reach.

The chemistry between Nolan and Jewel took them on a trip of hot sensual ecstasy – inside and out of the club. Neither could get enough of the other as Jewel submitted to the powerful Dom who managed to drown her in a sea of pleasure, time and again.

Right now, the future portends untold malevolence. In a macabre twist of fate, Nolan and Jewel find themselves inextricably bound up together by the forces of evil. But before they can be freed, the ties to his past must be finally severed.
When confronted with the inevitable choices, will they be able to rise to the challenge or will their world implode around them, obliterating any hope of a life together.

With a psychopathic Mafioso out for revenge, Nolan must dig deep to protect, at any cost, all whom he loves and cherishes.

Fear and regret collide to form a potent alchemy that unleashes the power of the will.

Wondering what happened to Colt Fargo? Does he manage to master the darkness inside of him? Will the Occhipinti Crime Family ever let him go?

This is the third book in the Club Wicked Cove Series that will take you on a rollercoaster ride from the picturesque Isle of Capri to the demimonde of a BDSM club. Get strapped in for a wild ride. This series should ideally be read in order.

Annie Fisher never saw herself coming back to the sleepy little town of Catfish Cove but when a call comes in telling her about her favorite aunts cafe fire she sees this as the perfect time for a homecoming. Of course she wants to be there for her aunt but she is also running away from her boyfriend and the trouble he seems to be in before she is dragged into it. Little does she know that trouble has decided to follow her.

She quickly realizes while New York was amazing Catfish Cove is where she belongs. While helping her Aunt Leona build her new cafe she comes in early one morning to find Max her current ex boyfriend dead, worst yet murdered.

The Sweet-

I enjoyed this story and plot very much, and found myself wishing to visit Catfish Cove and it was written to be such a darling town. I liked getting to know Annie, her family and her neighbors- if this is small town life than ign me up please!

I found Annie to be intelligent and one tough cookie who refused to be bullied by any man including her father, who for lack of a better description is a major cranky pants monster. She clearly loves with all her heart and stands up for herself and those she cares for. The ending sort of slapped me in the face in a good way because I never saw that twist coming!

The Sour-

Though the premise and plot are very well thought out unfortunately the story itself had some sort comings. Annies past in Catfish Cove seems like an after thought to me. I wish the author would have developed that part of the story more so that Annie’s character would have been more developed, Each time the past was brought up it was quickly swept away and I wish the author could have seen the potential to develop those moments. I also for some reason feel as though the author is hinting at something between Annie and her “aunt” but every time a small hint is dropped it quickly disappears.

As the first in the series I think that the series itself has a lot of potential and I look forward to reading it in hope of the characters being more realistic. I would feel comfortable suggesting this book to someone who is just starting to read cozys  and rate it a solid 3.5 cupcakes out of 5 cupcakes.

When having a bad day I often revisit the saga that changed my life-the saga that made me love reading again and I recently made my tough macho man gamer of a boyfriend watch a Twilight Marathon with me while I wore my New Moon tshirt…. Since Twilight I have yet to find a story based on Vampire that really and truly grabbed and kept my attention but this book did. I read it in one sitting and was so intrigued by the writers take on Vampires that I devoured it. I found some aspects of the story so original and well written. The author clearly tried to carve out her own take on your typical cookie cutter vampire story and she succeeded in many parts of the story.

The Sour-

Yes the author succeeded in being original in about 85 percent of the story. There were some characteristics of this story I recognized from past books I have read that were so cliche and unoriginal.  The Instalove between the Derek and Sofia was one for sure. He immediately was so intrigued by her and was so taken by her- it kind of left a bad taste in my mouth.

As the first in the series as with my beloved Twilight it had its hiccups but still shined brightly and I for one look forward to reading the many installments and diving into the world the author has created. I proudly rate this story with 4 out of 5 cupcakes.
