Molina has witnessed her Mother’s death by the hands of a Vampire all because of her Father’s role on The Council. It was meant to be a warning to her father but has instead molded Molina’s future and her hate for anything with fangs.

Molina has been accepted to Shadowborne under her deceased Mother’s name Ash Carter. She vows to someday find the Vampire responsible for her Mother’s death and to never be part of any COuncil. She is here to learn and to kill and that is it. That is until she meets Jax Miller.

The Sweet-

The idea of the story has such great potential as does the main character Molina/Ash. She is written to be strong willed smart and brave and thats where my like of the story end.

The Sour-

The story feels rushed and can be sloppy at times for example (spoiler alert)  the fact thet vampire she runs into and her new room mate are one in the same…. I am sorry but um if I watched my classmates being killed by a vampire I would recognize him if he moved in the next day no? I mean I wouldn;t get all cozy with him let alone sleep in his lap- I would scream bloody murder not cuddle up and fall asleep in his arms….  I wanted to love this book I really did but I falls short for me.

Grim Tidings by Amanda M. Lee Review

Title- Grim Tidings

Author- Amanda Lee

Genre- Paranormal Cozy

Purchase Link-  Amazon

Grim(ace) while you work …

Aisling Grimlock is having a bad week. Well, actually, she’s having a bad life — not that she’s complaining. Okay, she’s totally complaining.
After being laid off from her secretarial position, she has no choice but to join the family business, and now she’s a full-time grim reaper. That’s right. She collects and transfers souls to the hereafter.
Cool, huh? Not quite.
On the second day of her new job, Aisling (literally!) stumbles over a dead body that’s not on her list and the stakes are suddenly raised because, when a name isn’t on the list, that means someone stole it (and that’s never a good thing).
Aisling’s family, which consists of a tempestuous father and four overbearing older brothers, are hot on the case – but the answers they’re coming up with aren’t exactly soothing.
It seems a contingent of wraiths have descended on the area, and they’re not just dangerous for unsuspecting souls and the general populace. The Grimlock family is at risk, too.
If that weren’t bad enough, Aisling finds herself inexplicably drawn to Detective Griffin Taylor – the police officer who considers her a murder suspect. Oh, and she’s a wraith-magnet — although, truth be told, she’s more interested in Detective Taylor.
Aisling is determined to prove that she has what it takes to be a great reaper – even if it means risking her life and proving her father and brothers wrong when it comes to her competence level.
When things finally become clear, will Aisling survive long enough to make things right? Or, will she fall prey to the wraiths and the individual controlling them?

Aisling Grimlock is not only the only girl in her family but she is also the black sheep or at least in her eyes she is. When Aisling was younger she did everything possible to get out of being a part of the family business, She wanted freedom and thought she finally had it until she was laid off of her job and her best friend /slash roommate put an ultimatum forward that she needed to start paying her half of the rent.

See the Grimlock Family aren’t your typical family and the family business is anything but normal in fact its paranormal! Aisling is a reaper as is the rest of her family with her Dad at the helm in charge- working for the family can get a bit … messy but she has no choice.

Aisling must concede to her Father’s wishes and join the family in the reaping business. She was born into this- How hard can it be right?

The Sweet-

Okay first off I have to start by saying I was a bit hesitant to purchase this book when reading the blurb- Not that it didn’t sound amazing or interesting but I kinda already have a favorite reaper (Charley Davidson) and I was worried it would either cloud my judgement or ruin the book for me. Boy was I wrong!  The only thing my two favorite reapers (yes Aisling makes it two now) have in common is they are both smart and snarky girls who just happen to be in the reaping business.

Aisling is surrounded by the men in her life. She has her Father and her 4 brothers- one of them being a twin as well her her might as well be a brother best friend Jerry. The dynamics and the pure entertainment that this set up brings to the story knows no bounds! Typically when there are so many characters so quickly in a book it is a huge turn off for me but the author has such finesse and character building abilities in this book that I found my self adoring each and every character we meet!

Let me tell you- each scene the whole family including Jerry are in the same room might all be my favorite parts of this book! The scenes are full of love and humor ranging from the innocent kind to my favorite kind of humor raunchy that I found my self smiling from ear to ear several times during this book!

The plot line is steady and clearly well thought out and in my opinion ebbs and flows perfectly add action romance and a crazy bar fight at a drag bar and I am sold! Not only did this book keep me highly entertained but it had a fantastic and unpredictable plot twist at the end that had me not only purchase the next book but all the books in the series! I strongly recommend this hilarious book to anyone looking for something different and original!

Tess Quinn is living a simply and unexciting life in the small town of Elk Hill and is perfectly happy with the way things are. That is until her aunt Loretta whom she hasn’t seen in almost 16 years decides its time for a visit and on her birthday no less. Some what taken a back Tess agrees and opens her home to a woman who is now practically a stranger to her.

Strange things start to occur and Tess begins to suspect her aunt Loretta has ulterior motives for her random visit and is soon proven right. You see her aunt has come to town to see if her powers have come in. You heard right normal ordinary Tess Quinn is a witch or at least that is what Loretta keep telling her.

How does one go back to their perfectly normal life after finding out that they now have magical powers? How does one know what is magic and what is not? To top it all off Tess finds one of her meals on wheels clients dead and it smells like murder to her.  Can her new found magic find the killer before its too late?

The Sweet-

Tess Quinn seems like your typical 30-something woman and in I found her to be extremely relatable and grew to enjoy her character. I was intrigued by her new found magic and found reading about her magical missteps highly entertaining and comical! She had spunk and I love a good character with spunk especially female characters as I grow tired of the damsel in distress and the “oh woe is me” set up we often find in books with females as the main characters.

The Sour-

Though I did enjoy the book for the most parr there are somethings that did not really click with me. I understand that the first book in the series is used as a segway for the rest of the books in the series however I found it unbelievable how Tess went from being suspicious and super down to earth to simply believing that she was a witch. There was no turmoil for her and for me realistically one does not simply say “oh yeah if you say so I must be a witch!’

Also at times the story dragged but then sped up unexpectedly and not in a good way. I felt like the author was throwing things at the reader in an effort to make the story more exciting when honestly it was needed.

My last issue with this story was the ending and the actual whodunnit reveal which completely came out of no where! Yes when reading cozy mysteries I love being surprised by the reveal of the criminal but in this case it was only hinted literally paragraphs before it was revealed and come out of no where. The story then wraps itself in a nice little bow leaving the reader with so many questions.

All in all it was a cute quick read and I wouldn’t mind reading the next book in the series but I am not in a hurry to read it. The series has a lot of potential and once my TBR is lessoned a little I will be revisiting Elk Hill again.

Rating- 3 out of 5 cupcakes.

Adventures of a Vegan Vampire by Cate Lawley Review

Title- Adventures of a Vegan Vamp

Author- Cate Lawley

Genre- Paranormal Cozy Mystery

Everyone dies, but undead and vegan? Not the undead-afterlife this girl had planned.

Waking up thin is one thing. But waking up gaunt, hangry, and undead makes for a very bad day. That’s only the beginning. Mallory’s killer better hide, because she’s just discovered blood, meat, and dairy don’t agree with her-and a future with no cheese is grim indeed. She’s out to find her killer…and maybe a vegan cheese that doesn’t melt her nose hairs.

Mallory lives to work and is well paid. Her coworkers dislike her and she has no love life nor much of a social life but she gets her job done and at least she wont starve right?

Everything changes one night while out for drinks with her coworkers who only want her there to foot the bill. One moment she’s trying so hard not let her true feeling about them out and the next she is in bed unable to muster any energy to get out of it, She has no clue what is wrong or how she got home Tuesday night, It is now Friday morning and she has no energy a thirst that can not be quench and oh yea her normally full figure isnow nothing but skin and bones!

Is she sick? Is she dying? What the hell happened to her boobs? So many questions and no answers in site, until a very unhelpful doctor reveals that Mallory is actually no longer living… she is actually a vampire. A vampire who can not drink blood, a vampire who may not last long….

The Sweet-

A Vegan Vampire and a wizard walk into a bar- that is not the beginning of a bad joke but one of my favorite scenes from this book. The author puts her own unique spin on the world of paranormal cozies and I liked it! The fact the Mallory is a vegan vamp adds an original spin to the story as well as a big humor factor as we watch her figure how what she actually can eat!

The plot is well thought out and progresses at a steady speed with all the twist and turns placed in just the right places! The author did a wonderful job on creating a secret paranormal world that includes spies, wizards, ghost and yes of course vampires!

The Sour-

I only have one complaint and it is a  small one- I wish that author had explained a bit more WHY Mallory couldn;t drink blood? She only hints that it must be a mutation or a turning gone wrong but there is so much potential there to add to the story.

I rate this cozy 4.5 cupcakes out of 5!

Release Blitz: NEW TRICKS: PLAN A by Ella Medler

Publisher: PGP Liquid Gold
Genre: Erotic Romance
Content Warning: 18+

Emma worries her marriage will become humdrum and insipid now that the children have flown the nest. Fretting over it won’t make it better, though. Action will.

Jonathan wants to surprise his wife with a romantic getaway now that he’s got her all to himself. But judging by her plans for rejuvenating their marriage, it looks like she’s considered leaving him—that’s her Plan D.

Desperate times call for desperate measures, so Jonathan goes along with Emma’s suggestions in order to win back her love. Plan A sounds exciting, and Plans B and C are not bad either. Plan D might never happen… if he survives Plan A first.

“Delicious!” Jonathan said, tacking quickly on the end, “As always.”

I was certain that, despite my best efforts, my frown hadn’t left my face for close on twenty-four hours now. My dear husband was doing his best to cheer me up over dinner, and it wasn’t working. What better wake-up call did we need?

“Honey, please could we talk?”

His eyebrow rose as he pinned me with a concerned gaze, his fingers wrapped around the last of his bread drip-dropping dots of gravy onto the table. He finished the movement, chewed and swallowed, then asked, “Is Ashley pregnant?”

“Did Tyler get someone pregnant?”

“No! Jon, stop with the assumptions. It’s not about the kids.” Big breath, and then I met his eyes. “It’s about us.”

His left hand immediately shot over to cradle mine. Anxiety burst forth from him in a wave I could almost feel like a physical slap in the face. I didn’t have the heart to keep him waiting.

“It was yesterday when it hit me first… the fact that we’ve grown… not apart, but maybe… into a team. That’s it—we’re a team. We work well together and get things done, and hon, I’m grateful for that. But do you realize that with the kids beginning their own lives we won’t have any more issues to resolve? We won’t have the need to work together…”

“Sweetheart, the kids will need us for a few more years yet…”

“Jon, listen to me! What will happen to us when we have nothing to talk about? What will our subjects of conversation be? Politics? Sports? Your work? Celebrities playing dumb on daytime TV?”

It took a few minutes for the seriousness of my words to get through to him. When it did, it ruptured with a flood of words and half-formed questions. “Emma, are you leaving me? What are you saying? Please, don’t do this… Whatever it is, we can sort it out. I will do anything. Anything at all… Emma, please, please let me try—”

“Jon. Jon, stop. That’s not—”

“…Because I love you, Emma, and I would flip the whole world upside-down for you, you know that, right?”

I smiled in spite of myself at hearing this promise he’d made me the day he’d first confessed his love for me.

“I love you, too. And I want to make it work. I like what we’ve had so far and I want it to continue. That is why I want to talk to you. It’s best to talk and find a solution, don’t you think? Ignoring the fact that we could have a problem is not going to help solve it. Or prevent it from happening.”

I watched his shoulders lose some of the tension and then reached across my front with the one free hand to my opposite-side pocket.

“But this may help,” I said as I unfolded one-handed the four pieces of paper and smoothed them on the table between us.

Jon’s eyes reluctantly left mine and dropped to the paper. “What’s this?”

“A plan. Well, four. Plans A, B, C and D. I spent a lot of time thinking it through. Though I only considered the first one in detail for now. One of these is bound to work.”

Jon nodded. “Okay. I take it Plan A is the best, right?”

“Hit me with it.”

He pulled his hand back and crossed his arms over his chest. I took a deep breath and started.

Meet Me Monday- Julia Clare and Virginia Johnson Interview and Spotlight

Before we get into our interview with these two spunky and hilarious ladies here is a bit about them-

Virginia is a mom to two beautiful children and resides in Minnesota. Any spare time is spent watching TV, reading, facebooking and spending time with friends. She’s married to Thai Preyer PA and Mia Sparks, yet owned by Kyle Perkins. *these three run my life*
A love for reading and writing is a new concept for Virginia. Before the Twilight rave and a need to know the ending after Eclipse was released in theaters, Virginia preferred to watch the movie or convince a friend to read the book for her. Needing to know the story of a random homeless man that she encountered on a freeway exit ramp, was the only reason she began writing in the first place. Soulless Nights spawned from the unknown story and a dare from her friends.
She has had the pleasure of working with some of her favorite authors. Street teams, beta reading and cover modeling were what led her to the world of writing.
She currently PA’s for Kyle Perkins and has begun co-writing Humanity’s Ark: Kepler with him.

Julia Clare has been a PA to some of the most amazing and beloved authors. She has also been in the book blogging game for some time now, and she is also the owner of Digital Dirty Girl Book Blog. She has also helped various blogs on many different levels. Now has jumped into the position of author! In her personal life, Julia is a mom to two crazy boys. She lives with her children, her long time love, her super cute husky, Caine, and her pet boa, Dagger. In any spare time she has, Julia dives right into the next great read, watches scary movies, and she loves to rock out! Julia’s love of the literary world goes above and beyond, and you best believe that you can always count on her to get the word out!

EBL- Do you remember what made you want to become an author? How old were you?

Julia~ I have always enjoyed writing it wasn’t until some fellow indie authors pushed me to published that I believed in my work enough to do it.

Virginia~ I remember exactly the day I wanted to be an author. I read a book. The plot had potential, but the execution was awful. I realized then that I could either do it, or shut up about it. So, I wrote a story. I was 36.

EBL- Who are some authors that you look up to or admirer?

Julia~ There are so many it’s hard to choose. Generally speaking, I look up to the authors that work hard to sell their work. The ones that put their heart into their writing, not to publish 10 books a year but to produce quality reads.

Virginia~Early on, I admired many published authors. SC Stephens, Jamie McGuire, Colleen Hoover and Abbi Glines were of my favorite. After spending time in the indie world, I have grown as an author and a person leaving me to admire a new crowd of writers including Kyle Perkins, Ariel Marie, Yolanda Olson and Julia Clare.

EBL- Who would be your dream co author?

Julia~ I have her! Virginia Johnson

Virginia ~I have releases 2 books that have been co-authored with Julia Clare. I am currently working on a co-authored book with Kyle Perkins. If I had to dream big, I would love to co-write with SC Stephens. She is a fantastic writer and has the ability to make you fall in love with her characters from page 1.

EBL- Out of all the characters you have created- Which is you absolute favorite?

Julia~ Hands down Sera. She is absolutely twisted but rose from nothing. She would do anything for those close to her.

Virginia~ Aspen from Vindicate. She kills for love and the protection of others. She is a serial killer, but everyone loves her for it!

EBL- As you know Crystal likes to create recipes based on books- If there was one recipe you would say would go hand in hand with your book what would it be?

Julia~ A Fuck Me Hard
1/4 oz Vodka
1/4 oz Peach Liqueur
 1/4 oz Triple Sec
1/4 oz Almond Liqueur
.5 oz Raspberry Liqueur
1 Splash(s) Cranberry Juice
1 Splash(s) Orange Juice

Virginia ~ Blood Ball

1 – Blood Orange

Inject it with vodka, peach schnapps and grenada. Voila! Peel back and Enjoy!

EBL- These sound so freaking good!

EBL- What do you look for when designing or purchasing book covers?

Julia~ When designing I look for characters that match my story, and a scene that helps tell the story.

Virginia ~I ask myself one question, “Does this cover capture my character?” It isn’t always about the story-line or the content, as it is about capturing the characters’ feelings and actions. That is what the readers are going to fall in love with and want to be reminded when they see the cover.

EBL- Do you listen to music or create a play list when writing or do you need complete silence to be with your muse?

Julia~ I have a Playlist that changes with what character I’m writing.

Virginia ~ When I am kicking my own ass to come up with something fun to write, it is necessary. When I am writing sci-fi, I need something with no vocals – Horror? I use metal or Kesha. HEA? Christina Perri, Ed Sheeran or Sam Cook

EBL- How often do you find time to read? How long would you say your TBR is?

Julia~ Besides being an author, I also PA, I’m a blogger and I do graphic design so lately I haven’t had much time to read. My TBA is getting out of control.

Virginia ~I don’t have near enough time to read. I stopped adding to my TBR because the list was depressing.

EBL- What advice would you have for your younger self who just started writing?

Julia~ Best sellers or even sales don’t come from luck, it comes from hard work. Just because a reader or blogger doesn’t care for a story or won’t post for you, you can’t get your heart broken and give up.

Virginia ~Stop doubting yourself! Someone will help you once you are finished. I PROMISE!

EBL- As an author do you have any regrets?

Julia~ None. If anything had been different I wouldn’t be where I am now.

Virginia ~ I wouldn’t call them regrets. I wouldn’t take back anything I have done, but I may have done a few things differently with different people.

EBL- If you could sit down and have a conversation with anyone alive or dead who would you choose?

Julia~ Nikola Tesla, he has always intrigued me with his inventions

Virginia ~Speaking of recipes – My mom. She was an avid reader and I am positive that she would’ve loved my books. Also – I need some of the recipes that she took with her.

EBL- How often would you say your real life inspires your writing?

Julia~ Some character traits may make it into my characters but I don’t find myself in many of the same situations.

Virginia ~I pull real life actions in to my books all of the time. Some of my characters are loosely linked to something a friend said, did, or I named a character them. All of my characters are a form of me.

EBL- Would you ever want any of your works to become a television show or movie? If so who is on your dream cast?

Julia~ I would love to see Seraphine’s as a movie. I haven’t thought who would play who but it would have to be an extremely sexy cast.

Virginia ~Soulless Nights would make a great TV series. Vindicate and Seraphine’s would be scary thriller movies. Bound by an Echo would make Lifetime. LOL Dream cast? Who cares? If it makes TV or movie, I don’t care if Danny Devito played the main character. In a good world – Ian Somerhalder or Robert Downey Jr would be awesome.

EBL- How do you react or deal with negative reviews of your work?

Julia~ I read them and if it’s something that could be fixed to better the story, then I change it. Some people are just negative and those you ignore.

Virginia ~ I laugh, I learn and I get over it. If there was thought put in to the review, I can respect it and make adjustments as an author for future books. If you want to leave a review as a simple “DNF”? Don’t get me started on that one!

EBL- Do you have any upcoming signings you will be attending?

Julia~ I will be at the Tampa Indie Convention July 15 and 16.

Virginia ~I will be in Tampa Florida on July 15th-16th. Tampa Indie Author Book Convention!

EBL- What are you currently working on?

Julia~ I have a dark and dirty solo project and Co written, N9 a paranormal.

Virginia ~Oh Boy –

Co-writing with Julia Clare – N9

Co-writing with Kyle Perkins – Humanity’s Ark: Kepler

Paranormal – Always;Never

Expiate – Sequel to Vindicate

EBL- How do you prepare to write? Do you have a ritual before you are ready to write?

Julia~ Call Ginni? Lol just when an idea strikes we talk and plot.

Virginia ~I turn on the computer and type. Nothing special. I like to talk about my story prior to writing – build the excitement.

EBL- Do you believe in magic and or a paranormal world like in your books?
Julia~ I believe in the paranormal

Virginia ~Yes, I believe in paranormal experiences. Ask me in a month if I believe that the messed-up worlds that I am creating and helping to create exist… Could be some messed up reality to deal with.

EBL- As an author, do you prefer to read via ebook or paperback?

Julia~ Ebook only because I don’t want to mess my paperbacks up
Virginia ~I prefer paperback at home, but I am often on the go, so digital is my go-to.

EBL- If you could have anyone and we mean anyone featured on a cover of your book who would it be?

Julia~ At the moment Graham Nation

Virginia ~I am not a true believer in using models on the covers of my books. Julia and I went back and forth about using Spencer on Bound by an Echo. She won. So, if I am forced to choose a model, I would use him again because he isn’t a diva!

EBL-Who would you say most supports and inspires you?

Julia~My close family and friends. I strive to show my boys what they can accomplish with hard work.

Virginia ~My PA, Janneke, is my biggest supporter for my writing. Julia keeps me going every day and Kyle inspires me to be the person that I am and not the person that I am expected to be. They are the reason I write.

EBL- As an author how do you feel about the pressure the can be put on you to release new books?
Julia~ I’m not a good person to come to for sympathy. It’s only as much pressure as you put on yourself.

Virginia ~No pressure. I write a book, cover is made (my designer rocks) I send it to my editor, she sends it back, I upload it. End of pressure. I don’t allow myself to get stressed out about sales and money, I don’t do it for that reason. I write a book for my friends and fans. That is it. If someone wants to read it, YAY. If they don’t buy it, I am not too worried about it.

EBL- What is the craziest thing a fan has ever done?

Julia~ Tell me he wanted to recreate the murder sex scene in my book.

Virginia ~ Asked me to co-write with her. Julia was crazy as hell!

EBL- How did you become part of the indie community?

Julia~Started as a reader, went to events, fell into blogging, stalked an author until she let me be her PA lol.
Virginia ~Pepper Winters invited me in to a takeover a few years ago. That is when I realized what they were and I never left. The authors I met at that event, I followed as a reader and a beta, until finally writing a book and becoming a PA.

EBL- How do you deal with fear or jitters before a new release?
Julia~ If I have any, a shot of Patron

Virginia ~ Drinking. But that is usually after the release event that I hosted. LOL

Thank you Ladies for stopping by, you guys are amazeballs!

I’ve loved him as long as I can remember.

The gangly boy with big brown eyes and unruly hair who grew up into an intoxicating man. He wears scruff like he invented it and ambles with a swagger that makes panties drop.

Killian Shepard.

We grew up together. We played Ghost in the Graveyard. Had our own rock band. It didn’t matter that he was five years older than me. It didn’t matter that he looked at me as a kid sister even as I grew into woman. It didn’t even matter when he left me behind to go to college and start his adult life.

He’d be back.
He was always meant to be mine.

He came back, all right. But instead of smelling of promises, he stunk of betrayal. And he destroyed me—us—the day he married my sister instead of me.

So I did the only thing a girl like me in my position could do.

I got my revenge.
I married his brother, Kael.

Kael Shepard knows that his wife is in love with his brother but he also knows that there has never been anyone else for him but Mackenzie. Since they were young kids she has always belonged to him. His swan, his love, and his reason for breathing. He will do anything- whatever it takes to make her his- truly and undeniably his in every sense of the word.

Will his love mend her broken heart? Will she ever stop loving the one man she has loved since before she know what the word meant?

Have you ever read a book and felt every single emotion known to man while reading only a couple of chapters? No? Well than you need to pick this beautiful breathtaking and soul shattering book up like right NOW!

I made the mistake of starting this book before bedtime…. and did not stop reading till it was 4 in the morning! I kept telling myself the next chapter would be the last until I was left with pools of tears on my pillow and snot all over my face because of all the damn feels. I have NEVER felt this strongly while reading a book. I felt anger, hurt, sadness, happiness, giddy and broken all while reading Black Swan Affair.

The author seamlessly navigates this story through not only past and present but also between both Maverick’s and Kael’s point of view. She makes you not only fall completely helplessly in love with the characters but also makes you hate them all in the same chapter making you dizzy with emotions but addicted to the ride it takes you for.

Rating 5 fucking cupcakes out of 5! If I could I would knock on the authors door and shower her in cupcakes!

I’m just a regular ol’ Midwest girl who likes Game of Thrones and am obsessed with Modern Family and The Goldbergs. I run, I eat, I run, I eat. It’s a vicous cycle. I love carbs, but there’s love-hate relationship with my ass and thighs. Mostly hate. I like a good cocktail (oh hell…who am I kidding? I love any cocktail). I’m a huge creature of habit, but I’ll tell you I’m flexible. I read every single day and if I don’t get a chance…watch the hell out, I’m a raving bitch. My iPad and me: BFFs. I’m direct and I make no apologies for it. I swear too much. I love alternative music and in my next life I want to be a bad-ass female rocker. I hate, hate, hate spiders, telemarketers, liver, acne, winter and loose hairs that fall down my shirt (don’t ask, it’s a thing).
